10 Times Vince McMahon Got Tired Of Playing With His New Toys
9. Ricochet
Chikara Young Lions Cup V winner. SoCal Uncensored Wrestler of the Year. NJPW Tag Team Champion. Wrestling Observer's Best Flying Wrestler and Best Flying Wrestler of the Decade. Do these sound like qualifications for a jobber to you? Well, they do for Vince McMahon.
Much like his former tag team partner Matt Sydal, Ricochet received a bit of rough treatment during his tenure in WWE. At first, things seemed to go well. In NXT, he won the North American Championship, was named NXT Year-End Award for Breakout Star of the Year, and also won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic alongside Aleister Black.
When Ricochet arrived on the main roster, he was presented as a superhero, performing insane aerial assaults week after week, picking up several victories. He was even booked to win the United States Championship.
But then, leading up to the bout against Brock Lesnar at Super Showdown in 2020, things changed. A long video package aired before the match in Saudi Arabia, insisting someone could overcome 'The Beast,' so why not Ricochet? Lesnar answered that question with a couple of minutes, as he demolished the young superstar.
And ever since being humiliated by 'The Beast Incarnate,' Ricochet wasn't the same. Night in and out, he jobbed every single match unless WWE wanted to use him to bury someone else (sorry, Tucker).
Perhaps the future will turn out brighter for the high-flyer, but if so, it will require considerable effort to undo what has already been done.
