10. Oh My God! Bret Hart Is Ba...Oh Wait No He Isn't

HBK specifically turned, against his wishes, for a feud and big money matches (or so he thought) with Hulk Hogan, who was back for one last round of main events. Michaels had been a babyface since his 2002 return but had no trouble relocating that old heel personality of his. Michaels was an absolute riot in segments when he was ripping on the Hulkster, in particular his impression of Hogan on the 'Larry King Show'. Many fans who had grown to resent Hogan and his constant spotlight-hogging ways saw Shawn as nothing but the sole babyface in the feud. That changed somewhat on the August 15th Raw when Michaels, Vince McMahon and WWE played a cruel trick on the WWE Universe. The show was being held in Montreal (where this little screwjob deal went down, in case you hadn't heard) and Michaels was delivering a masterful opening promo. The fans really hated him there, with good reason. During the promo, Michaels began running down Bret Hart, saying that if Bret turned up he would punch him out etc. when, all of a sudden, The Hitman's music hit. The fans collectively lost their minds. Honestly, you don't hear pops like that very often. It was Austin/Rock like in its volume. Sadly, it was just a rib on Shawn's part. There was no Hart. Shawn's s***-eating grin afterwards was priceless, but this was a pretty insensitive thing for WWE to do. Also, given his history with Bret, you had to know that this was Vince's idea/call. It's not like anyone else (besides maybe Triple H) would have the balls to suggest it. Bret would, of course, return to WWE in early 2006 for the DVD bio treatment and a Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Still. the 2005 return fake was a huge f*** you to WWE fans.
