10 Times WCW Broke With Reality
7. Kevin Nash On Commentary
Kevin Nash somehow wangled his way onto WCW's booking committee in 1999, and when that role came to an end a few months later he decided to make the world know how few damns he gave about anything. On 14th October, on what was allegedly his last day as booker, he joined the WCW Thunder commentary desk and proceeded to smear the whole broadcast in verbal ordure.
He opened by saying he'd booked himself into a retirement angle, and was only commentating so WCW could recoup some of what they paid him. A bemused Mike Tenay said it would be a 'very interesting Thunder,' and he was right.
Nash pointed out Goldberg 'milking the hard camera', claimed he'd 'get heat' over misnaming Lex Luger, claimed one match was only booked because half the roster didn't show up that day, and demanded to know 'who's bookin' this'? Nash did everything he could to derail the broadcast with the force of raw smugness, while Tenay failed to rein in his annoying excesses.
Nash's knowing smirk to the camera explained everything the viewers needed to know about Nash's reasons for this display - to show he could do anything whenever he wanted, even if it neutered WCW's product itself, and that nobody could stop him.
