10 Times Wrestlers Became WWE Champions Without Winning A Match

3. Dolph Ziggler - World Heavyweight Championship

Poor Dolph Ziggler. Ziggles has had two world championship reigns in WWE, both of which were cut short and neither of which live long in the memory. In fact you'd be forgiven for believing Ziggler has had just one world championship run, so forgettable was the first. This isn't a slight on Ziggler of course, more on the preposterous booking situation that brought it all about.

It was the 600th episode of SmackDown, and Vickie Guerrero had used her powers to strip Edge of the title for using the Spear in a previous match, a ruling that sounds as ridiculous now as it was back then. She thus awarded the title to her main squeeze, Dolph Ziggler, and for one whole night Ziggler was champion.

He didn't end the night as champ however, with Edge picking up the main event victory and reclaiming his title. Two months later Edge was to retire and vacate the title once more.
