10 Times Wrestlers Bet On Themselves (... And WON!)

1. Jon Moxley (2019)

So powerful was Jon Moxley post-WWE that the first sting of his killer entrance track - the booming Wild Thing by X - maintains a guaranteed and justified pop on a weekly basis. Its presence is among only a few that come close to topping the arena-shaking roars of Chris Jericho's Judas.

WWE knew instantly the issue they faced in early 2019. Confirming the then-Dean Ambrose's intentions of leaving the company when his contract expired, they essentially said to the viewer that Ambrose was set for three months of torture before he was set free from his chains. On what felt like a nightly basis, this supposed top WWE Superstar was humiliated, left beaten, and restricted to A Moment of Bliss segments with EC3.

But they said WWE didn't want him to go.

Dean Ambrose wasn't a top WWE Superstar. He never was. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were, and still are. Ambrose always was the third man in the Shield. WWE never knew what to do with him so ultimately, they created their own worst enemy who, realising that a new entity was opening up, risked it all for a shot at career redemption.

It's been nearly four years. An AEW without Jon Moxley is impossible to think of, as is a current-day WWE with him. Would he have again reached the top as WWE Champion?

Of course not; fifty runs as 24/7 Champion, though? Bang on.
