10 Times Wrestlers Bet On Themselves (... And WON!)

4. Mercedes Moné (2022)

Mercedes Mone
NJPW

Walking out during the 16 May 2022 Monday Night Raw broadcast, disgruntled with the imminent creative plans for her and indeed the Women's Tag Team titles, Sasha Banks (and Naomi) did the unthinkable. Though not on the same legendary level as Chris Jericho, she was believed to be a WWE lifer, her career was cemented firmly in the land of sports entertainment with what appeared to be no intentions of departing, certainly not for another wrestling promotion anyway.

Acting? Maybe. But NJPW? Not a chance.

The rechristened Mercedes Moné did indeed appear at Wrestle Kingdom 17 after weeks of speculation - months, really, but the NJPW intrigue grew significantly in the few weeks preceding WK17 - the 'CEO' set her sights firmly on KAIRI's IWGP Women's title. Mercedes' first public wrestling-related appearance in nearly eight months, nerves controlled her. Her first attempted Moné Maker and subsequent promo on the fallen champion left a lot to be desired, leading fans to question if her heart was still in wrestling.

It is, as she and KAIRI had a fiery collision over the very IWGP Women's title at Battle In The Valley. The former 'Legit Boss' worked one of her best bouts that evening, perfecting the Moné Maker, and proving herself as a true draw in a women's division that desperately required one.

None of that happens without everything that arose beforehand, as infamous as it may have slowly become.
