10 Times Wrestlers Brought Old Gimmicks Back (For One Night Only)
5. Earthquake
The WrestleMania X-Seven gimmick battle royale was WWE's celebration of yesteryear before yesteryear began to take over the product. Some of the most infamous and popular midcard faces from the promotion's rich past appeared in the match, from One Man Gang and Tugboat to the Bushwhackers and Jim Cornette for some reason!
One of the bigger names to appear was an old rival of Hulk Hogan, Earthquake. A huge name in the late 80s-early 90s, the real-life John Tenta was a sumo wrestler in Japan before jumping to pro-wrestling. He had a short stint in All-Japan prior to his WWE run where he made his debut as a heel, attacking the Ultimate Warrior during his feud against Dino Bravo. He remained a reliable villain throughout his first run, also winning the Tag Team Championship as part of the Natural Disasters before his release.
He'd return to WWE in 1998 under a very different gimmick, that of Oddities stablemate Golga, a masked, deformed Eric Cartman obsessive. The gimmick and the stable as a whole was a failure and following the 1999 Royal Rumble were never seen again.
Thankfully that wouldn't be our last memory of Tenta as he returned to the gimmick that made him famous at WrestleMania X-Seven, where he threw out his former partner Tugboat before being eliminated by Kamala.
