10 Times Wrestlers Called Out Their Own BS
6. Dave Meltzer
In which the esteemed Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor says something nobody will ever credit him for saying: a tale as old and as excruciating as time.
He is not a wrestler, no, but it's like, here's the thing, it's like: 'Wrestlers & Wrestling Personalities' is bad SEO, and a bit, y'know, clunky. Also, UWF promoter Herb Abrams booked an enhancement talent to get his d*ck knocked in the dirt, and that man's name was 'Little Davey Meltzer'. So perhaps that counts?
Also, how marvellously petty. Vince McMahon isn't even the most spiteful wrestling promoter!
An endearing figure for his verbal idiosyncrasies and a legend of the wrestling media game, Uncle Dave can't say a damn thing without being accused of bias. A knowledgable chap, he uses data and numbers to support his arguments in a daily ritual of toxic discourse. It is exhausting. Give him a quarter, and he'll be playing an accordion and talking about the All Out pre-sales for hours.
There are as many retractions as asterisks in a typical edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, but people will not accept that he - at times - owns up to being wrong. Even when he does so in front of a paywall.
Meltzer didn't think one of the biggest demo draws and merch shifters of 2020 - Orange Cassidy - would work on TV. He then admitted he was wrong.
He admitted he was wrong.
He admitted he was wrong.
But he was wrong about Orange Cassidy, who can't possibly draw, and so the discourse begins anew.
