10 Times Wrestlers Called Out Their Own BS
5. Cody Rhodes
It's honestly almost a shame that Cody Rhodes has somehow conspired to bring back professional wrestling to mainstream television.
Despite flirting with his heel side to get emerging babyfaces over in a situational role, the fans, when they return, won't ever boo him. He's too good in too valuable a mode - the earnest babyface is nigh-on impossible to pull off - and the intricate long-term booking and unscripted promo fire he restored is too vital for fans. He's a forever face.
But he's also an exceptional pure heel who once conspired to generate elusive, deep-felt heat in 2018 by aiming a captive bolt pistol into the temple of the sacred cow that was the original, iconic Bullet Club design. Aware of its power, Cody mischievously decided to change it.
The redesign couldn't be more Cody unless it bladed itself; an hilarious sight gag, his trademark bleached hair covered the 'Club' text, conveying the idea that he was more important than the group some fans didn't feel he belonged in. His cigar fetish replaced the guns. The red, white and blue of his insignia messed up the cool understatement that encouraged fans to wear it outdoors with pride.
But he isn't infallible: his "Daddy Eats First' t-shirt was too overbearing, too Pardew, but to his credit, he coyly acknowledged as much in the Pro Wrestling Tees documentary. It worked better in his head than on the transfer.
