10 Times Wrestlers Had Their Title Belts STOLEN

6. Pedro Morales MAYBE Pawns His Own WWWF Title... Or Maybe Gets Robbed

Almost eight years after winning it, Bruno Sammartino dropped the WWWF Championship to Ivan Koloff in New York City. This was but a transitional reign to pass it over to another babyface hero, Pedro Morales, who took it from the Russian heel just 21 days later, holding it for well over two years.

Amazingly, the second babyface to ever hold the WWWF Championship also had it stolen.

Maybe.

Morales always claimed that like Bruno before him, his belt was swiped while he was eating in a restaurant. Pedro's title was actually found, however, as historian Tom Burke ending up seeing it in a pawn shop and buying the bloody thing, but should we believe him? It's hard to say, as a popular, conflicting rumour persists, stating that Morales pawned the strap himself in order to pay his gambling debts.

We may never know the truth, but Morales' friend, Pete Sanchez, claimed that Pedro received just $125 for the WWWF Championship when he allegedly pawned it over. Adjusted for inflation, that's around $800 in today's money.
