10 Times Wrestlers Hit Their Finisher In A TV Show
7. Kane - Smallville
In March 2007, Glenn ‘Kane’ Jacobs was coming off a significant amount of outside work, having starred in See No Evil - the first major movie produced by WWE Films - the summer before, and taken two months off work to travel around Europe promoting it.
Off the back of that, he landed this guest spot on the sixth season of The CW’s ‘young Superman’ show Smallville. He plays a Zoner named Titan - an escapee from Kryptonian interdimensional prison the Phantom Zone - who gets sucked into the kind of no-holds-barred gladiatorial scenario that only exists on cheesy shows like this.
Smallville was and is a bit of a dud when it comes to superhero television: running for ten years between 2001 and 2011, it was the blueprint for how The CW would approach the shows that made up the Arrowverse, but it had little of the high value production and self-deprecating humour that would later characterise Arrow or The Flash.
However, as pro wrestler guest shots go, this episode - called, with devastating lack of originality, ‘Combat’, isn’t half bad. Both Kane and the late Ashley Massaro get some decent screen time: Massaro in particular, despite having clearly been hired for her cheesecake value, pulls off her lines with surprising finesse playing a henchwoman with a thing for Lois Lane.
Kane’s not really doing anything differently here than he would on WWE television, but gets to deliver a chokeslam while looking like a freaky badass, so all’s right with the world.
