10 Times Wrestlers Ignored Direct Orders

9. Steven Regal

When Steven Regal and Bill Goldberg worked a match on the 9 February 1998 edition of WCW Nitro, the latter was in the middle of an iconic winning streak that'd define his career. WCW loved that Goldberg was mowing through everyone in sight, and they wanted Regal to do the J.O.B for Bill in quick order too.

No chance, said His Lordship.

Regal famously decided to start wrestling the rookie, and it was no surprise that Goldberg didn't have a clue how to respond. He'd been programmed as a killing machine who wrecked the house in squash matches, and wasn't a chain-wrestling God who'd be able to counter Regal's mat-based style. Goldberg was having a tough enough time countering the Brit's stiff strikes.

It's perhaps no surprise that Regal had his contract terminated shortly after this match, but the man himself has always disputed that he was supposed to lay down in seconds for Goldberg. Regal claims they were supposed to have a competitive match.
