CM Punk is a most divisive professional wrestler.

He always has been. An enigma of an athlete, Punk has regularly chosen unambiguous outspokenness over his run in whatever company he's signed to at the time, his existence thus becoming a constant source of headline-worthy news. This has never been as paramount as it has been in 2023, as Punk has been spotted at no less than three external promotions in varying capacities while on a sabbatical from AEW, the first of which was when he attended New Japan's Battle In The Valley.

Joined by IMPACT's Gisele Shaw and Rancid's Lars Frederiksen, Punk's presence caused quite the stir in and out of the venue, with subsequent pictures posted to Twitter showing Dave Meltzer, Scott D'Amore, and No Way Jose chatting to Punk, too. KENTA, meanwhile, teased a Go 2 Sleep before flipping the bird to Punk, furthering the reported G2S-related beef between the two.

This was the extent of CM Punk's involvement with NJPW as, although he partook in the AEW/New Japan Forbidden Door crossover by felling Satoshi Kojima while taking a legitimate elbow to the groin, he is unlikely to wrestle for New Japan itself.
