10 Times Wrestlers Unified Titles
6. Bryan Danielson (ROH World And ROH Pure)
Bryan Danielson was the widely beloved king of the indies throughout the mid-to-late 2000s. A technical wizard with an astoundingly high pain threshold, Danielson worked 30 minute-plus classics most nights of the week for years. In 2005, ROH finally pulled the trigger on making The American Dragon their champion when he tapped out James Gibson in a mat-based classic.
Danielson's claim to being the best technical wrestler in the world was disputed by just one man: Nigel McGuinness. The pride of Staplehurst, Kent was quickly rising through the ROH ranks, dominating as the Pure champ. Danielson and McGuinness' rivalry was turned up to 11 when a title for title match was announced. The nefarious McGuinness had a habit of ensuring his matches ended via count out, ruining the first attempt the promotion made at getting a double champ.
Their rematch in the UK is the stuff of legend. Brutal, bloody and no-nonsense, the two champs beat the snot out of each another. Their brutal displays have become rather uncomfortable to watch given the extensive health problems both have suffered in later years.
A key moment in Danielson's seminal 15 month reign as ROH's top dog, the Pure title was retired for 14 years before fellow technical maestro Jonathan Gresham won the reinstated belt last year.
