Tag team partners starting the Royal Rumble is one of the great tropes of the match, and whilst Demolition starting things out in 1989 may well be the most iconic it is the hardcore beginning of the 1998 Rumble that has lasted the longest in the minds of fans worldwide. Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie drew one and two, and both men decided to fill the ring with weapons much to the delight of the fans.

Funk and Foley took a breather from blasting each other in the head with chairs to quickly eliminate Tom Brandi, before reverting back to type almost immediately. Watching back this all makes for somewhat uncomfortable viewing, as Foley and Funk take multiple chair shots directly to the cranium with little or no protection. The two understandably hit the mat, just in time for The Rock to enter at number four.

Somehow the future WWE Tag Team Champions would last almost 10 minutes, but it was Chainsaw Charlie who managed to eliminate Cactus Jack first. 'Eliminate' may not be the best word however, as Funk merely sidestepped an onrushing Foley, letting gravity do the rest.

Foley would get a modicum of revenge later in the match, as he re-entered as Mankind and threw Chainsaw Charlie out of the bout.

Will we see tag team partners turn on each in 2017? It would surprise no one if this was the case of course, as the Royal Rumble truly is every man for himself.
