Rob Van Dam and Kane have gone down as one of the strangest odd-couple tag teams ever, but their partnership was in its early stages at the time of the 2003 Royal Rumble. The duo had explicitly said in the build up to the match that they were not going to work together, so many were somewhat surprised when they began joining forces towards the end of the match.

After getting rid of A-Train the two set their sights onto Batista, with RVD motioning for Kane to press-slam him onto 'The Animal'. Van Dam hit the ropes and was raised to the skies by 'The Demon', but he found himself flung to the floor as opposed to flung onto Batista. Kane had double-crossed his partner, although you could say that RVD should have seen it coming.

Kane shrugged it off, giving the impression that it was all business, throwing in a classic RVD taunt for good measure. Two months later the duo became WWE World Tag Team Champions.
