10 Times Wrestlers Were Too Silly For Their Own Good

3. Goldust

During his heyday as an androgynous villain, Goldust made an impact by facing stars like Razor Ramon and The Undertaker. He also managed to make a name for himself as the Intercontinental Champion. His Hollywood-obsessed persona was never exactly the makings of a WWE Champion, but he was in a much better position on the card than when he returned from his second stint in WCW.

While he certainly had the technical skills (which he would later showcase as an agent and coach) and the famous Rhodes' charisma, Goldust was largely featured in comedy bits, whether that meant creating awkward situations with tag partners or experiencing Tourette Syndrome after being electrocuted.

Granted, many of the jokes didn't age well (see WWE try to mock a neurological disorder now), Goldust always managed to give the comedy skits his best, which unfortunately perpetuated his involvement in them.

Dustin Runnels, the man behind the gold paint, mentioned he often grew tired of playing the strange persona and felt he could have reached greater heights without all the gimmicks during numerous interviews. As the character was distanced from controversial origins, it would have been interesting to see WWE take the wrestler in a much more serious light during the latter half of his tenure. As AEW showed fans, "The Bizarre One" still had what it took to put on a spectacular match.
