10 Times Wrestlers Worked Their Way Into A Job
8. Mickie James (WWE)
Heading into TakeOver: Toronto in 2016, NXT had itself a problem. Asuka was a dominant champion, almost too dominant. There was nobody left and not enough time to build a credible challenger in time for the upcoming pay-per-view. Triple H, the savvy booker that he has proven to be, called in a favor from an old friend. Mickie James was proven within the walls of WWE, once being the biggest star in the company's original women's division. She certainly had the historic form to match up with The Empress of Tomorrow and proved to be the perfect candidate to try and end Asuka's streak.
The crowd was electric for James' return and she showed the world that she certainly could still go in the ring and could be an excellent hand to have around the locker room. Management was impressed and with this realization came the contract. A multi-year deal was signed on the dotted line. James was brought back on a full-time basis to be a veteran amongst youth on the new SmackDown Live! roster.
'La Luchadora' was an interesting way of bringing her back, that's for sure, but ever since, James has proven useful whenever a young talent needs to be made to look like a star.
