10 Times Wrestlers Worked Their Way Into A Job
5. Eddie Kingston (AEW)
Eddie Kingston has had an interesting wrestling career. It seemed wherever he went, be it CHIKARA, Impact, Ring of Honor, PWG, or CZW, fans recognized the sheer brilliance of both his in-ring and mic talking abilities. He has been long acknowledged as one of the best talkers in the game and he has consistently backed it up with his constant, almost poetic promos. Despite his gifts, he had never gotten the chance to work for a company that could provide a stage fit for prime time on national television.
AEW was birthed with the intent of giving the spotlight to underappreciated talents such as Kingston. Then, to accentuate their goal to highlight underappreciated wrestlers, the TNT division was invented with the sole purpose of producing weekly opportunities for these very wrestlers. This is why it was only appropriate that Kingston answered Cody's open challenge. The match was an instant TV classic and proved any potential doubters of his wrong.
Fans demanded his immediate signing, as the internet wrestling community went viral with the #SignEddieKingston movement. Tony Khan announced days later that pen had been put to paper and Kingston is now one of the company's biggest stars. It is a good thing that Kingston showed some initiative, got his opportunity and ran with it, otherwise he still might be an underappreciated independent talent.
