Wrestling legend Sid Vicious, who passed away in August this year, had a decorated in-ring career. His accolades included two WCW World Heavyweight Championship reigns between January and April 2000. He won the title for the first time on the 24 January 2000 episode of WCW Nitro - but his reign didn't last long.

Following Chris Benoit's exit from WCW after a day he won the WCW Championship, the title became vacant, and then WCW Commissioner Kevin Nash took things upon himself to make it easy for him to claim the championship. However, since Sid Vicious stood in his way, he laid out a challenge to Sid. If he could defeat one of the Harris Brothers on the episode of Nitro, he could face Nash for the vacant title in the main event.

Sid Vicious took on Don Harris in the No.1 contender's match, which also had the stipulation that if Sid lost, Nash would automatically become the new champion. When Sid seemed to have the upper hand in the contest, the Harris Brothers did a switcharoo as Ron Harris entered the ring while Don rolled out.

Sid pinned Ron Harris to win the match and then went on to defeat Kevin Nash for the WCW Championship. However, Nash used his power as Commissioner to strip the title off Sid Vicious on the following episode of Thunder since he pinned the wrong Harris Brother to advance to the title match. Nash then awarded himself the title, but Sid got the title back the same night by beating Nash and Ron Harris in a Caged Heat match.
