10 Times Wrestling Crowds Actually RUINED The Moment

Sometimes AEW thinks its fans know more about wrestling than they should.

Following a standard match where Cody made quick work of a jobber, the son of a son of a plumber began cutting a promo on MJF. Turning towards the stage he beckoned for MJF to come out, all while a hole appeared in the ring. Out of the hole came a masked man in a leather jacket and wrestling shorts. He unmasked, revealing himself to be, well, just a guy. All through the arena Excalibur can be heard shouting "The Blade! The Blade emerging from underneath the ring!"

Things didn't get better as Excalibur kept screaming, "The Butcher!" as a monocle-rocking mustachioed man climbed out of the hole as well.

The crowd, visibly and audibly confused began chanting "Who are you?!" While AEW had not made any serious missteps up to that point, this was definitely their biggest to date. Dropping two steam-punk looking wrestlers into the middle of the ring on their nationwide TV program and expecting the crowd immediately to know and respond to them was a wonderful moment of awkwardness from a promotion that seemed to have everything figured out.

This is a situation where perhaps some vignettes would have helped. Maybe then the crowd could have at least known who showed before they came out of the ring.
