10 Times Wrestling Fans Completely Rejected What They Were Seeing

10. Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar – WrestleMania XX

Back in 2004 in the lead-up to WrestleMania XX Bill Goldberg wasn’t interested in signing a contract extension to the one year deal he was nearing the end of and neither was WWE, with both of them being burned out of working with each other. Brock Lesnar meanwhile handed his notice in to WWE a week before the event to pursue a career in the NFL. These circumstances made the ‘Mania crowd at Madison Square Garden that night hate this match before it even began midway through the card.

It was 15 minutes of Goldberg and Lesnar locking-up and trying not to get distracted with deafening “You sold out”, “Na Na Na Hey Hey Hey Goodbye", “Boring” and "This match sucks” chants.

Stone Cold Steve Austin was the special guest referee for the match and genuinely contemplated calling an audible halfway through where he would brawl with Brock far earlier than planned. After Lesnar lost he angrily stuck up his middle fingers to the crowd. Brock meant every bit of that gesture too; after giving his body to entertain them for two years he took it as an insult that the audience would be so quick to react and reject him like that.
