There was much speculation in 2019 after Bray Wyatt returned at SummerSlam as The Fiend that he’d be accelerated to the main event picture and soon challenge for the Universal Championship. Bray confirmed this at Clash of Champions when he attacked Rollins with Sister Abigail and the Mandible Claw. It was a rough period of time for Rollins, who was carrying the Raw brand as their flagship Superstar and had to deal with bad promos and storylines being scripted for him on a weekly basis. In everything but appearance he came across as a white meat babyface.

WWE was still experimenting with The Fiend at the time so they had their HIAC match doused in a distracting red light. Then in the match the ridiculousness hit an all-time high when Rollins hit 11 Curb Stomps on The Fiend only for him to easily kick out. To top it off Rollins used a sledgehammer on The Fiend and somehow the match was ruled a disqualification. Fans HEAVILY booed, chanting "Bull****", "Refund", "Restart-the-match" and "AEW" as #CancelWWENetwork trended worldwide.

The fact Bray and Seth’s HIAC match, a concept originally conceived to end long-time feuds in climactic extreme violence, ended in a disqualification was a slap in the face to everyone who watched it. Bray and Seth didn’t even touch in a singles match before this; their fresh feud somehow escalated to a Hell in a Cell match solely because WWE’s next PPV was titled ‘Hell in a Cell’.
