7. Batista vs. Big Show - WWE ECW

A Batista and Big Show match even now sounds surreal to have taken place on a show with ECW in its title but it happened. ECW re-emerged under the WWE banner in 2006, signing to air a weekly show on the Sci-Fi network. The new ECW ran into many obstacles in their first few months, like their World Champion Rob Van Dam (who they planned on building the brand around) getting arrested for drug possession alongside another beloved fan favourite Sabu, as well as their major acquisition Kurt Angle battling addiction issues that would soon lead him to exit the company. As a result of all this Big Show was quickly promoted to winning the ECW World Championship.

Sci-Fi wanted strong ratings and ECW wasn’t pulling them in at the time. So WWECW boosted their weekly show with appearances from Raw and SmackDown wrestlers like Edge, Randy Orton and D-Generation X.

On the August 1st show they had ‘The Animal’ Batista go against Big Show at the original ECW’s old stomping grounds the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Fans in the Ballroom that night loathed this match and its wrestlers. They jeered them both and chanted “Boring” and remarkably “Change-the-channel” throughout much to WWE and Sci-Fi’s chagrin. Show has said of the fans that snubbed and shunned this match “They didn’t give a crap.” WWECW never returned to the Ballroom to run an event after this calamity.
