10 Times Wrestling Fans Turned On Internet Darlings

5. Becky Lynch

The woman so immune to WWE's scripting that she became a superstar in spite of it, Becky Lynch succumbed to it in the end. Nearly.

After a great run ahead of WrestleMania 35, all that slowly ebbed away when WWE do-declared Lacey Ehhh-vens as #1 contender to her RAW Women's Title, resulting in a series of poor matches. Lynch was dragged down to Lacey's level - which, since she was nowhere near for the role, was sub-developmental - and she cooled off significantly, not helped by an onscreen association with real-life partner Seth Rollins tempered by palpable awkwardness.

Her standing improved following a belting programme opposite Sasha Banks, but then the van came around ahead of WrestleMania 36 as Lynch took to driving an articulated lorry with her face emblazoned all over it. The implication that she had gone to the effort of customising a geet big truck for herself depicted her as a try-hard, and if this was part of a pride-comes-before-a-fall character development, that was rather undermined by the fact that she handily defeated Shayna Baszler inside 10 minutes.

The cosplay Conor McGregor had fulfilled the prophesy, but before some mouth-breather first attached the 'Super' prefix to her good name, she got the hell out.
