10 Times WWE Almost Made A New Star (Then Totally Blew It)
6. Damien Sandow
Like the Rusev entry, this is another example of a performer turning themselves into a star and presenting WWE with a golden opportunity. However, unlike the rise and fall of Rusev Day, there was a straightforward way to pay this angle off and turn Damien Sandow into a star, and it's impossible to rationalise why it didn't happen.
During 2014, Damien Sandow was in a strange place on the card, playing the role of an impersonator, dressing up as celebrities and generally going nowhere. However, he experienced a meteoric rise after becoming The Miz's stunt man and rebranding himself as Mizdow.
This lasted for some time, with the team finding a fair amount of success, but a golden opportunity reared its head during the 2015 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale when Mizdow turned on his counterpart and became a babyface.
All WWE had to do to capitalise on the popularity of this "red hot babyface in waiting" - as described by Forbes - was have him go over The Miz in a strong PPV bout. Instead, they traded victories on Raw for the next few weeks, leading to a blowout match that Sandow would lose.
A simple PPV programme with a victory for Sandow would have been all he needed, but instead, he remains one of WWE's biggest what-ifs.
