There’s another Mick Foley match on this list, and it’s quite the debate about which one is the better hardcore encounter (hint hint). Regardless, Edge vs. Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22 is a masterclass in turning someone into a star. The scars of Edge’s three week WWE title reign were erased as he looked like an absolute monster against the king of hardcore.

While this match is likely known more for the spots involving fire (including the end where Edge spears Foley through a flaming table), blood nonetheless played an important role, accentuating the pain these men were putting each other through.

Foley started out wrapped in barbed wire, and from there, he got cut, Edge got cut, by God, even Lita got her face cut. It's relentless! Perhaps the best example is the sequence where Edge takes Foley’s signature barbed-wire baseball bat and goes to town on Foley’s face and body.

By the time he was done, Foley was red all over and gasping for air, making Edge look like the biggest bastard of his era. So essentially: mission accomplished. Edge would be a proper main eventer for the rest of his career. Well done, Mick.
