10 Times WWE Booking Failed Braun Strowman
4. Miz & Morrison & The Midcard
As evidenced by the p*ssweak Bray Wyatt programme and ultimately just how well Roman Reigns' return was received, Braun Strowman's 2020 Universal Championship run was largely written off as a bit of disaster.
Almost none of it was his fault.
Drafted in as Reigns' replacement with no story whatsoever with just 48 hours to go (though, what does that say to internal perceptions of him then versus one year later?) due to his believable ability to beat Goldberg, Strowman felt like a paper champion from the jump. With more Wyatt than even the biggest stan account could manage, he never really had the chance to tackle that reputation. When he did? More f*cking slime.
Is the man a favourite of that specific kink community perhaps? Miz and Morrison were booked as a couple of goons who thought they could dethrone him because there were two of them and only one of him. And they loved hijinks and mischief such as slime and booby traps. As a new Champion also crowned at WrestleMania, Drew McIntyre was assembling a very admirable run on the other side at the time, only widening the gap between 'The Monster Among Men' and the main event slot he was now theoretically commanding.
"Theoretically", because it had long stopped being reality.
