10 Times WWE Creative RUINED Their Biggest Stars

1. Shawn Michaels Is Broke

Shawn Michaels was always the kind of performer who could take something rotten, put his own spin on things and somehow make it workable. As good as HBK was however, even he was powerless to justify the notion that he was dirt poor, had lost his savings and needed JBL to put food on his table.

That didn't stop WWE from giving it a bash in late-2008.

Mere months before he'd tear the house down at 'Mania XXV with The Undertaker and forget about ever being "broke", Michaels had to put on his best puppy dog face and explain that, due to the ongoing recession, he couldn't pay the bills. That's when opportunistic scumbag JBL jumped in and made Shawn do his bidding.

The whole thing was just hard to swallow. Shawn Michaels is one of the biggest stars ever, had earned countless millions from his career by that point and never needed to work again. Fans knew that, so the idea that a made man was failing to cope amidst a financial meltdown was not believable.

With that one story, WWE's writers almost made HBK into a joke before one of his best matches ever.
