10 Times WWE Creative RUINED Their Biggest Stars

2. Hulk Hogan Becomes Mr. America

The 2003 feud between Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon gave us that wild brawl at WrestleMania XIX, and it's therefore defendable. Aside from that one match though, the rivalry was often atrociously bad. Put it this way: Zack Gowan, a Hogan vs. Roddy Piper rematch at Judgement Day and Mr. America were all part of the story.

With the possible exception of Donald Trump, American patriotism has never blown so badly.

Seeing Hulk go under the hood in a crude attempt to dupe McMahon felt like something out of the WCW 2000 playbook, and it was far-fetched for WWE to expect anyone (even hardcore Hulkamaniacs) would buy the short-lived character. This, just over a full year after Hogan's grand return, was creative rock bottom.

It turned the Hogan-led wave of nostalgia into a joke at the expense of fans who were happy to see him back, did nothing for the ongoing feud with McMahon and, worse, made Vince look like more of an idiot than the audience were willing to buy.

Vince Russo wasn't even around to point the finger of blame at.
