Kurt Angle's 2017 return to WWE was a long time coming, and it was something his most ardent fans had waited to see ever since the Olympian traded Vince McMahon for TNA in 2006. The response to his re-debut post-WrestleMania 33 was huge.

It didn't take long until those impassioned cheers turned to moans of disbelief.

In July, just over three months after Angle's sweeping comeback, he was forced to go on Raw and cry crocodile tears over Jason Jordan. The whole thing, from Kurt's attempt to get fans onside with the bogus story and Jordan's own unconvincing performance tanked (thank God he didn't say, "I love you, pop" though). It wouldn't get any better over the next few months.

This wasn't what fans wanted from Kurt's comeback. A nostalgia-fuelled run as Raw GM was fine, because everyone knew that'd come with a few big pay-per-view matches sprinkled here and there. Nobody expected to see WWE fumble such an easy-to-tell resurgence so badly.
