10 Times WWE Creative RUINED Their Biggest Stars
8. Bret Hart Feuds Over A Jacket
Bret Hart's rise from heel tag wrestler to workhorse World Champion was greeted with enthusiasm by the core WWF audience in the early-'90s. This was a different breed of pro wrestler to what had come before, and the wrestling-centric sensibilities of Bret wouldn't require much suspension of disbelief.
Until Jean-Pierre Lafitte sailed into port in 1995, that is.
The fact Lafitte was a wrestling pirate wasn't the problem; fans had accepted overblown characters before, and they would again. Nah, a feud between the eyepatch-wearing former Quebecer and his fellow Canadian might have worked had it been based around something more than the phony sea man stealing Hart's ring jacket.
Sadly for Bret, that was all WWF creative could come up with for their former two-time champ. His promos, ones that relied on fans giving a flying toss about a leather jacket, were dire, and not even the predictably excellent matches between he and Jean-Pierre could save things.
Avast ye, writing team.
