10 Times WWE Didn't Realise Greatness Was Staring Them In The Face

Sometimes Vince is too busy polishing his brass rings to see what’s right in front of him.

Vince McMahon is, on his day, a fantastic wrestling promotor. He is head of a company with a decades' long track record of creating stars, some of whom have gone on to become household names.

It hasn’t always been easy. WWE hasn’t always had the depth of talent currently stacked in the Performance Center, but time and time again they have made chicken salad from the proverbial chicken s**t.

They haven’t always taken the obvious route either. How many people, shown six foot ten Mark Calaway, would say, “great, make him an undead mortician. The gimmick will run for decades and he’ll be one of the industries most beloved figures!”? Almost none, you'd wager. But that’s what Vince McMahon did.

Easy to assume then, that he must be some form of visionary. Then again, for a visionary he sure seems to miss a lot of great things that are right in front of him.

Any promoter in the world would be delighted to have talents like the ones on this list fall in their lap. WWE just didn’t see it...

10. Rusev

We may never know quite why WWE failed to pull the trigger on Rusev again and again.

The wrestler currently known as Miro is funny, charismatic and convincing as a dominant grappler but more importantly than all of that, he was over.

Fans loved “The Bulgarian Brute.” Creative seemingly had nothing for him. Even when organic fan support was handed to them on a plate.

Time and again WWE threw away the guy’s momentum, most egregiously and notoriously by breaking up his partnership with Aiden English (a guy whose own career never recovered).

WWE could have positioned Rusev as a top star and still be selling Rusev Day t-shirts quicker than they can print them. Instead Rusev Day turned out to be the day that never comes.

Instead AEW have the chance to capitalise, having signed the greatest free agent Twitch had to offer.
