10 Times WWE Didn't Realise Greatness Was Staring Them In The Face

There’s more to being a world champion than being a talented worker. In fact prodigious work rate isn’t even a necessity. Hulk Hogan wasn’t the greatest in ring technician, Steve Austin was at his most popular on the wrong side of his physical peak and an ageing Chris Jericho is also past his athletic prime in a company of superworkers but was still the right choice to establish AEW’s top title.

A champion needs that all important X-Factor. Something the man known as Captain Charisma has in spades. Sadly Vince McMahon didn’t see it. Nor did he like what he could see. He famously thought Christian had a “ratty” face. During his first run Christian was more likely to appear with a blue dot over his face than a singles World Championship belt around his waist. WWE instead focused all their attention on his tag partner Edge.

Even after proving he could be a top guy in TNA, he was still seen as a career midcarder by the WWE high ups. It took Edge’s sudden departure to elevate Christian into the World Heavyweight title picture.
