10 Times WWE Dropped The Ball With Cody Rhodes
6. Becoming Stardust
Cody Rhodes may not have ever won tag team gold with Damien Sandow, but it didn't take him and Goldust long to clinch the WWE Tag Team Championship in October 2013. Within weeks, they brought the tag team division to new heights in their battles with The Shield, The Usos, and The Real Americans, stealing the show at almost every pay-per-view they competed at.
Their title reign came to an abrupt end at the Royal Rumble when they dropped the straps to The New Age Outlaws, but on the bright side, that seemingly served as the catalyst for their breakup and subsequent feud. But just as it appeared they were going their separate ways, they remained together as Cody transformed into Stardust.
To his credit, Cody attempted to make the character work to the best of his ability and it looked like he was actually enjoying himself as Stardust, but the gimmick was never going to get him above a certain level in WWE. Once he and Goldust split up, he was doomed to be an undercard act for the rest of his career.
Furthermore, Stardust was basically a poor man's Goldust, and Cody would have been better off creating his own legacy as himself. But hey, he tried.
