10 Times WWE Dropped The Ball With Cody Rhodes
2. Not Facing Goldust At WrestleMania 31
WWE missed a golden opportunity to have Cody Rhodes face Goldust in a Title vs. Career match at WrestleMania 28, but it wouldn't be the last time they would drop the ball on doing the brother vs. brother bout on the grand stage.
Goldust shockingly returned in the 2013 Royal Rumble match and crossed paths with Cody, and while a WrestleMania match between them would have made sense, nothing ultimately came out of their altercation. Furthermore, they were officially broken up as a tag team by the time WrestleMania 30 rolled around, yet they were thrown in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal instead.
And then came WrestleMania 31. They reunited in mid-2014 and teased a split coming out of the Royal Rumble, and while Stardust did eventually turn on Goldust, WWE gave the match away at Fastlane in February instead of holding off until WrestleMania 31.
Due to the rushed nature of the build, the fans in attendance couldn't have cared less about the match or Goldust winning in confusing fashion. The feud was set to run through WrestleMania, but it was scrapped once officials caught wind of the poor reaction their initial match received.
That could have been the perfect moment to bring back Cody Rhodes, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.
