10 Times WWE Failed To Make Dean Ambrose 'The Guy'
1. Botching His Heel Turn
Remember what was said in the very first entry on this list, regarding WWE wasting the popularity of the Jon Moxley persona? Well, we come full circle now, as near the end of Dean's stint in WWE, they had the opportune moment to reignite that side of Ambrose, with his long overdue heel turn.
After a somewhat anti-climatic Shield reunion, Ambrose was put on the shelf with a nasty triceps injury. His in-ring comeback was further delayed due to life threatening complications during his recovery. Finally, after months out of action, Dean would return on Raw to back up friend-again Seth Rollins. With the Ambrose character turning a bit stale prior to his absence, his comeback would have been the prime time to make the turn. But WWE made us wait... until an episode of Raw where Roman Reigns announced he had leukemia.
Unnecessary for sure, but how did they handle Dean in the bad guy role after that? Did he channel the Jon Moxley of old, producing spine tingling promos that only he could ever think up? No. They had him come out in a gas mask and tell the audience they stink. These were clearly lines Ambrose wasn't coming up with himself, and was the verbatim of WWE's writing team. Or Vince McMahon. What's the difference?
It's clear this all amounted to the final straw for Ambrose, and WWE missed their last shot to finally give Dean the status and spotlight he so deserves.
