10 Times WWE Failed To Make Dean Ambrose 'The Guy'
2. Botching His WWE Title Reign
WWE finally gave Ambrose the big one, and in dramatic fashion to boot! Not only did Dean win the prestigious Money in the Bank briefcase, but he cashed in on the same night. Poetically, it was Seth Rollins who he triumphed over for the championship, who in turn had just dethroned Roman Reigns for the strap nonetheless.
Things got off to a positive start for Ambrose's reign, with the highly anticipated Shield triple threat finally taking place, Dean surprisingly retaining the gold in the process. This was a huge win for Ambrose, arguably the most important of his career, and yet, it's not as fondly remembered as it should be. This is because it was always expected that the triple threat would headline or at least take place on a WrestleMania card. That would have made the match far more historic and could have been a much bigger feather in Ambrose's cap. It just turned out to be another missed opportunity for Dean to cap off the 'Show Of Shows'.
Then there was the rest of Ambrose's run as champ. At the second biggest show of the year, SummerSlam, Dean was booked in an underwhelming title defence against Dolph Ziggler that came nowhere close to threatening to headline.
By the end of the reign, baby face Ambrose was being booed in favour of a heel AJ Styles, who captured the belt from him. What started with so much potential was booked into mediocrity.
