10 Times WWE Fans Forced A Face Turn

5. John Cena

Revisionists have claimed that Cena was groomed from the outset to fill the role of Vince McMahon's franchise player, but many will remember it differently. He was a bad guy rapper in the early goings, his gimmick less a masterstroke than it was a Halloween costume gone well.

True: Cena was jeered in career-making 2003 feuds with Undertaker and Kurt Angle, but these were fans still mourning the death of the Attitude Era. They couldn't really hate the man who was helping to inject some edge back into the WWE product.

Like The Rock, Cena's ability on the mic was too good for him to remain a heel. We were desperate to see him come over to the good side, if only because there were a queue of fellow bad guys who needed a Doctor of Thuganomics dressing down.

Courted by opposing Survivor Series teams in the fall, Cena cemented his long-awaited face turn by snubbing Brock Lesnar. He took an ass-kicking for his troubles, but the fans loved him for it - for about 18 months, anyway.
