10 Times WWE Fired Wrestlers Who Were Dating Wrestlers
7. Rusev And Lana
When Rusev made his main roster debut in 2014, he was a force to be reckoned with as the Bulgarian Brute. He came across a future main eventer with his ‘social ambassador’ Lana accompanying him to ringside, playing off Ivan and Ludmilla Drago in Rocky IV. They looked for the longest time special, which is rare in pro wrestling. Rusev dominated opponents, won the United States Championship with ease and rode a military tank to the ring at WrestleMania in a spectacular entrance.
But as time went on Rusev’s push diminished. After a complicated and convoluted soap opera driven storyline revolving around Lana cheating on him with Bobby Lashley, and openly expressing frustration with creative, Rusev was released from his contract in the 2020 budget cuts.
It meant for the first time he and Lana were divided in wrestling. Lana had to sink or swim without Rusev by her side, with her rigorously training and competing more in the ring than ever before. Rusev meanwhile signed with AEW and was rechristened Miro, where he offers up relationship advice on camera and off to Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford, given he’s experienced romance in wrestling for years.
