10 Times WWE Forced It Down Our Throats

7. The Great Khali

They do love a monster over at Stamford. Always have and always will, at least as long as Vince is around to think he might have found the next Andre The Giant. Unfortunately though, The Great Khali was less Andre, and more Giant Gonzalez. The Punjabi Nightmare appeared to have legitimate difficulty walking, let alone the ability to produce anything near the level of Andre within the confines of the squared circle. But, he was big, he was scary, and god damnit he was going in the main event.

He decimated the Undertaker in his first appearance on TV, interfering in a match against Mark Henry and throwing the Deadman around like a rag doll. For once, we truly had not seen the Undertaker manhandled like this. Khali's dominance was underlined with an emphatic win against Taker at Judgment Day 2006, before victory against Kane at Wrestlemania XXIII propelled Khali into a WWE title feud with John Cena. At One Night Stand 2007, Khali was pinned for the first time before he was drafted to Smackdown.

We had seen enough to know that the poor guy had no business being in a wrestling ring, but WWE still felt they could put the World Heavyweight Championship on him while keeping him out of one-on-one matches. After winning the vacant title in a 20-man Battle Royal on Smackdown, Khali retained at the Great American Bash 2007 in a triple threat against Kane and Batista. Around this time, he debuted a devastating new finishing move, called the Vise Grip (or Head Squishy), a hold that made Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Batista and Kane all pull the facial expressions of a simpleton while Khali's massive hands pressed themselves on either side of their heads.

Realising that there wasn't much more to be done with Khali's reign, WWE had him drop the title to Batista at Unforgiven 2007 in another three-way dance, with Rey Mysterio taking Kane's place this time round. After failing to regain the strap from Batista in a godawful Punjabi Prison Match at No Mercy 2007, the closest Khali ever got to a world title was a brief feud with Triple H that ended with a Pedigree at Summerslam 2008.

As a long-time WWE fan, I have always enjoyed watching men pretend to beat each other up while wearing spandex. Extra points for facepaint, none for tassels. I love all things sci-fi. If there's a 'Star' somewhere in the title, I'll probably dig it. I'm a huge football fan too. For my sins, I support Manchester United.
