10 Times WWE Gave The Internet Wrestling Community What They Wanted

10. Chris Benoit Wins The Big One

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBchZjgr1vU For the entirety of his career, Chris Benoit was one of the most respected men to ever step into the ring. As a wrestler, he was nearly unmatched. Benoit's visceral, hard-hitting style was something that fans and fellow wrestlers alike were drawn to. And despite the dark final hours of his life, Benoit's in-ring career can never be taken away from him. But it was in 2004, at WrestleMania XX, when Benoit finally accomplished what he'd been trying to do for nearly 20 years. Having won the 2004 Royal Rumble in its breath taking final moments, Benoit used a loophole in the stipulation about facing the champion to move over to Raw and face the World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H. It was eventually turned into a triple threat match featuring Shawn Michaels. Even in the years before, when Benoit worked for WWE rival World Championship Wrestling, he was deemed by fans as someone who deserved to be the champion more than anyone else. And even though he did technically win the belt from Sid Vicious at Souled Out in 2000, it was considered by Benoit to be a hollow victory at best. For all the years that Benoit spent trying to become the world champion, he ended up closing the 20th anniversary of WrestleMania alongside his family and friend Eddie Guerrero, SmackDown's WWE Champion. It was a night that the IWC felt justified in all their desires and hopes. The image of Benoit and Guererro together, as the two men who were holding the company on their shoulders, is an iconic image that will never be forgotten.
