10 Times WWE Gave The Internet Wrestling Community What They Wanted

6. Chris Jericho Is The Undisputed Champion

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igAbA_BqIv8 The politics that ravaged WCW have been talked about by many wrestlers over the years in books and shoot interviews. No matter how many great matches you had, no matter how much the crowd loved you, it didn't matter. Unless you were friends with Eric Bischoff, it was unlikely that you would ever be elevated above mid-card status. As Chris Jericho continued to be the workhorse of the company, and created an absolutely brilliant heel character that could have become a main event player in WCW, he soon became disenchanted with that pesky glass ceiling and split for the WWE in 1999. Jericho has always been an IWC favorite. His flawless in-ring track record, trailblazing promo work, unique character and charismatic personality made him a perfect candidate to become an IWC poster boy. Indeed, Jericho's tenure in the WWE was often mired by the IWC wondering why he wasn't the champion. But at Vengeance 2001, Jericho took part in a sort of mini-tournament to crown the Undisputed Champion between himself, Kurt Angle, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. On paper, it seemed like an obvious finish with Rock and Austin finishing it out. But thanks to a low blow and a stolen Rock Bottom, Jericho moved on to face Austin in the main event. It's difficult to imagine anybody predictin what would happen next, as Jericho pinned Austin and became the very first Undisputed Champion. It's something Jericho has taken with him ever since, and is one of the prime examples of the WWE hearing what the IWC wanted and going for it.
