10 Times WWE Got Buyer's Remorse

2. Jim Ross

Jim Ross' powerful 1996 diatribe might have been entirely initiated to position him as the facilitator of Fake Razor Ramon and Diesel's embarrassing runs with the organisation, but the worked shoot promo he cut to set the angle up remains one of the very best from that experimental sweet spot between the New Generation and the Attitude Era.

Livid with the recently-outed WWE head honcho Vince McMahon for two 1994 firings, Ross used the time to tell a fairly realistic tale about his time with the company.

Sacked shortly after suffering his first Bell's palsy attack, Ross' original run saw him go from announce booth hero to Radio WWE hero as McMahon mulled over the value of JR's iconic drawl.

Perhaps ridiculous in hindsight considering Ross' overall contributions to the company over the years, McMahon's indifference towards the former voice of WCW before he finally forced a cowboy hat and nickname on him was just one of several stumbling blocks between the pair.

The same unease crept back in as Ross and the product itself aged beyond the turn-of-the-century peak. Continually on the outs after so many years deeply embedded, JR's most recent exit in 2019 served as one of All Elite Wrestling's highest profile acquisitions.
