What The Main Event Should Have Been: Triple H vs. Goldberg.

Goldberg finally joined WWE the night after WrestleMania 19. He was an already well-established name, but after defeating The Rock in his first match, he went on to have feuds with Christian and Chris Jericho before setting his sights on Hunter.

Their first showdown between Goldberg and Hunter would have felt more special if four other competitors hadn’t been involved in their first match. Elimination Chamber matches are almost always solid, but SummerSlam 2003 wasn’t the time for one. The other competitors were largely unnecessary. Hunter had already defeated Kevin Nash, he already had a major feud with HBK the year before, and at that point, there was no way they were going to put the belt back on Chris Jericho. It was Goldberg and Hunter that were the main attractions.

This was the event that would have given Goldberg a ton of momentum had he gone in and destroyed Hunter. But they waited for the following month at Vengeance, which meant the title switch went down on a B-level pay-per-view.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
