What The Main Event Should Have Been: CM Punk vs. John Cena

It took a low blow for Brock Lesnar to beat Triple H at SummerSlam 2012, which is one of the most ridiculous things the company has ever done. John Cena took on Brock in his return to the company, and WWE’s third in command wanted the next shot. While Cena vs. Brock was an incredible match, with a brutal, realistic style, Hunter was unable to give The Beast a good follow-up.

Punk and Cena did fight at the show, but The Big Show was also involved in the match, which cut the excitement for it by about 75%. It was a largely forgettable 12 minutes of in-ring action that would have been a lot better without The Giant. Cena and Punk battled the next month anyway, so they should have just put on the showcase at SummerSlam, and delivered a hot follow-up to their Slam match from the prior year.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
