On the subject of WrestleMania main events, Randy Savage won his first WWF Championship by defeating Ted DiBiase in the finals of a 14-man, single elimination tournament that took place at WrestleMania IV. Ironically though, it was the Million Dollar Man who was originally planned to leave Atlantic City as the undisputed champ before plans changed.

Even today, it's a very special honor to win the WWE Championship, but back in the 80s, winning the title was an accomplishment like no other. From 1984 through the end of the decade, there were only 3 men that could call themselves WWF Champion: Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, and Randy Savage. That's very elite company - and as big a star as Ted DiBiase went on to become, he wasn't on the same level as those three.

Although he headlined several Pay-Per-Views, DiBiase slid slowly down the card after his feud with Randy Savage wrapped up in '88.

Had DiBiase won the title at WrestleMania, he would have certainly remained at the top longer than he did.
