5. Lex Luger Vs. Yokozuna (SummerSlam '93)

Incidentally, if ever there was a guy that needed a championship win to validate his WWF career, it was Lex Luger.

In the wake of Hulk Hogan departing the Federation in 1993, Lex Luger was called upon to lead the company into the next generation. The machine got behind Luger, creating the infamous Lex Express tour, culminating in a WWF Championship match against Yokozuna at SummerSlam '93.

At the time, the promotion of this match seemed like the closest thing the WWF ever came to promising that the title would change hands. Given the expectations, it became an unbelievable disappointment when the event came and went without Luger winning the title (winning via count out instead).

There's some debate as to whether or not the plan was ever for Luger to win the title at SummerSlam or if, all along, WrestleMania was the end game. Regardless, it never happened - and Luger's WWF career was doomed.

Add to that Luger's second failed attempt at WrestleMania X, and his chance at becoming the next great face of the company was over before it ever began.
