F*ck The Authority.
It was more of a failed psychological breakthrough than a pro wrestling stable.
The idea, at least initially, was to create a stable that would oppose Daniel Bryan's ascent to the main event picture. WWE deliberately cast itself as a corrupt, out-of-touch organisation that didn't actually know what was "best for business" anymore, but arrogantly insisted that they did to inform the heft of Bryan's redemption. This was WWE appearing to say "We know what's fashionable, we know who's he's the next guy, we're just going to f*ck with you and tell a meta story along the way".
WWE, by acknowledging its faults, seemed almost certain to resolve them. Why...why would they not do that bit at the end?
But actually they did know what was best for business after all, so f*ck you.
Daniel Bryan wasn't best for business. Too short, actually. Probably shouldn't have put him over Cena. You know who isn't short?

The stable actively told you that you were wrong to think the things that you did and dangled the carrot in front of your dumb mark face.
