10 Times WWE Put Its Talent In Impossible Positions

8. Randy Orton And Edge Have To Have "The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever"

It doesn't get much more of on impossible ask than being charged with putting on "the greatest wrestling match ever" - yet that's exactly what WWE put at the door of poor Edge and Randy Orton at 2020's Backlash PPV.

The very notion of there being a definitive greatest wrestling match ever is one laced with plentiful holes; not least in how that topic is entirely subjective. Regardless of how some may forever refer to Dave Meltzer and his star system, there is no way possible to truly establish what is the absolute best match of all-time.

In billing Edge's second singles match back in action after nine years as the greatest bout ever, the Rated-R Superstar and Randal Keith were given something that they had zero chance of living up to. It's impossible to pick out a set-in-stone greatest ever match, yet by giving Edge vs. Orton this label WWE was going out on a limb and making this the set-in-stone finite greatest ever match.

This proclamation wasn't even made with any sense of tongue-in-cheek. It was just WWE's promotional push telling you that what you were about to watch on 7 June 2020 was going to top every other wrestling match you've ever seen in your life.
